A front side of the vinyl placed on the black background

brief

Adapt the design of the BadBadNotGood’s Mid Spiral music poster to a 7’’ vinyl record. Preserve the key design elements of the poster while creating a new functional format for a vinyl disk.

approach

The vinyl’s design criteria consisted of conserving the spiral pattern, along with colours and the typeface of the poster. Yet, in order to preserve the experimental nature of the album, the format had to be rather unconventional. The goal was to explore various possibilities of the record’s final form, ranging from a regular sleeve to a completely unconventional design. The key challenge was to keep the packaging functional and sturdy.

solution

The final record presents itself in a form of three page booklet, with spiral die cuts, that start on the cover, and end on the last page, acting as a protective sleeve for the vinyl disk. Such unconventional form allows to hook the interest with its die cut cover, to then further explore the record while uncovering artist’s biography through each page.
